Technology
Backlot
The console for running The Organization's private streaming service.
What It Is
Backlot runs on the web and in an app for iPhone and iPad.
It shows streams, the people the service is shared with, stored files, downloads and requests.
Who It Is For
Backlot is used only by The Organization's operator.
The people the streaming service is shared with use the service's own pages and help.
What It Keeps
Backlot keeps the following about each person the service is shared with.
- Plays
- Who watched what, when, on which device and in which town. The IP address and exact location are deleted after 90 days; the rest is kept.
- Sign-Ins
- When, and from which browser or app. The IP address is kept 90 days.
- Assistant
- Questions to the service's assistant, and its answers. Kept 90 days.
- The person's email address, if given. Kept until changed, or until the person is forgotten.
- Changes
- Every change to a setting or a person, and every change sent to the streaming service. Kept with no set end date.
- Log Store
- A copy of sign-ins and changes in The Organization's log store. Kept 400 days.
- Backups
- A sealed copy of everything, made each night. Kept 180 days.
When the service is no longer shared with a person, the operator can forget them: their name, username, email address, picture, the IP addresses of their plays and sign-ins, and their sessions and devices are deleted at once, and from the backups within 180 days.
Their plays and requests stay, under a number only.
